Smiling again

I am a firm believer in the Universe looking out for us, the good old ask the Universe scenario thingy. Well yesterday the Universe gave up the goods! Maybe as a due reward for the crap-ola time I've had this week.

You my dearests will become soft furnishings for Clementine

This amazing wall hanging medallion makes me happy just    looking at it! (dirt and all!!)

Birthday Boy of mine

Today my boy is turning 15. Wow the time goes by so quickly.
I am so proud of the gentle and beautiful natured young man he has become. He is sharing his special day by Motorbike riding with his mates. Enjoy your special day sweetheart and relish in being 15, it really is a great time in your life.

My Friday

This is how I filled my Friday
I folded up the freshly washed aprons found on my recent road trip. So many pretty florals....

I drank some tea while reading my emails

I picked some flowers to put on the dining table

I wore my painting clothes even though I didn't paint!
it was too windy outside to get started

I made a new jewellery board using a pin board, glue, old
       rulers and tacks

What does your Friday look like?

Hey Foxy Lad!

Within the pages of Mollie Makes is the most adorable little softie Fox. She is made from felt and has the most stunning eyelashes. I have decided to make her for a special little guy that is turning 2 in a few weeks time. I am however going to make a Foxy Lad rather than a Foxy Lady. I will post the finished product.

Speaking of Foxes, here are a few cuties I have happened upon..

Addicted Much?

Well I have a confession to make. It appears I may have become addicted to knitting! Although there are many things one could become addicted to, at least knitting is productive.  It began just prior to World wide Knit in Public Day (I was practicing to make sure I was an ultra cool looking knitter) and it seems I can't stop. There are so many beautiful yarns around and the weather is just perfect for getting all snuggled up on the couch and knitting. The kids have even dragged out the family scarf, which was knitted by each member of our family on our Tassie holiday a few years back. Clearly they are reminiscing about the feel of the yarn and the clacking of the beautiful wooden needles. I wonder if they are feeling the urge to knit too?  I believe it is quite contagious. Go on try it sit next to someone knitting and tell me you don't feel something, I dare you!!

Quinces, Quinces.... everywhere!

To kick the weekend off my gorgeous friend Em and I made some things from quinces I picked from a loaded quince tree that was offered to me. We rummaged through out  pantries digging out jars to wash, steralise and fill with yummy quince. First we made poached quince with a recipe adapted from Maggie's Harvest cook book to suit our purpose followed by Quince jam with ginger and finally some quince paste.
What a fabulous start to the weekend.

Bonfires are fun

Annie enjoying the mulled wine

Sparkler action

Holley enjoying the radiant heat

Last night we had a Bonfire.  We ate lovely food, beginning with the good old hot cob loaf pull apart dippy thing...mmmm cheesy. Then M made an amazing Moroccan Chicken Tajine from the  Jamie does book. There was cider, pumpkin pie and cake. We enjoyed the fire light, had some sparkler craziness drank mulled wine and listened to some sweet chords courtesy of Brock. Come the early morn we bedded down for an old fashioned sleep over. So much fun!!!

Just like you

With the all turbulance we are experiencing at home lately, it has forced me to reflect on my own teenage years. There were insecurities, tears, tantrums and feelings of angst.  I had a lovely dinner with a friend and her gorgeous little family at Boho in Adelaide on Wednesday night.  We were laughing and chatting about the perils of being a teen and how complex it can feel.  We were a foursome, her and I along with two girls that were sisters. We made up silly songs, had completely distasteful nicknames for people and shared so much.

Then disaster struck....we had a fight, we weren't talking, there was no more laughter only tears, mean words and diary entries with hopeless and helpless themes.  We continued on through senior high school but we had drifted apart. I remember feeling such a heavy loss, but little did I know she also felt the same.

Many years have passed and we are in contact regularly and I adore her. I have celebrated her engagement, pregnancy, the birth of her son and funnily enough it wasn't until dinner last week that we talked about that time! She said she also felt loss but didn't know how to fix it. So when I came across the open book project, I thought it was fantastic for today's teens to be able to know that yep, we were just like you once.
I wonder where my diary from that time ended up?

Home -Bless this nest

To say this week has been fraught with emotion, would be the understatement of the year.  When I was growing up I thought being a teenager was one of the most awful times. Turns out I was wrong....being the parent of a teen is! We have been in struggle city this week. There has been a missing child, meetings with teachers, tears, tantrums, anger and awkward silences.  The key to getting through I have found is rising above it all and holding onto the thought that it can't last forever....GULP! Has anyone got a tissue?
